There have been changes to the law related to school attendance which all schools must follow:
If your child has unauthorised leave of absence you may either be issued with a Penalty Notice of £120 per parent per child (discounted to £60 if paid within 21 days), or, your case may be referred by the Local Authority directly to the Magistrates’ Court.
Leave of Absence/ Holidays
From 1st September 2013, the reference in law to Head Teachers being able (at their discretion) to agree up to 10 days of leave of absence was removed. Instead, the legal reference has been amended and means that schools cannot authorise leave of absence unless the Head Teacher considers that there are exceptional circumstances relating to the application.
