Celebrating 100 years of Sir David Attenborough

Our school proudly took part in the celebration of Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday in partnership with BBC Radio Leicester as part of the “Our Planet, Our Pledge” initiative. The whole school was involved, enjoying a wide range of activities throughout the day.

Activities included a scavenger hunt at the local park, collecting leaves, discovering new plants and flowers, listening to birds, and exploring insects on leaves and trees. The children also enjoyed creative activities such as making bird houses and nature crowns. They learned about the life and work of Sir David Attenborough and why he is a national treasure who continues to inspire us to care for our world.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the day, exploring, creating, and learning, and found the experience truly magical. The activities covered many areas of the curriculum, including science, DT, history, art, and geography. Most importantly, the day showed the children that learning about our planet is fun and highlighted how important it is to look after it.

As a school, we are committed to caring for the environment. We use compost bins for fruit and vegetable waste, take part in daily litter picking to keep our school tidy, and have a nature area where Forest School sessions take place. Here, children explore plants and learn how to create a better environment for wildlife.

Overall, the day was a huge success. We wish Sir David Attenborough a very happy 100th birthday and thank him for inspiring us all.
