Outdoor provision

These children have enjoyed designing and building some furniture. They carefully thought about the materials they would need to use to create their idea. They made a bed using a pallet to which they attached wooden trellis to create a headboard. They added some soft bricks for pillows and a fluffy rug to make it nice and cosy. They also wanted to create a table so they searched and found what would be suitable. We talked about how the legs would need to be all the same size to balance and what material would be best to use. Woodwork provides a unique learning experience for young children. It is so rich in so many areas of learning and development. It encompasses creative thinking, maths skills, scientific investigation, physical development, coordination, developing language and vocabulary, awareness of the environment using recycled materials, safety, collaboration and much more.
