Learning, Growing and Thriving Outdoors
We are delighted to offer Forest School sessions at Uplands Infants school, led by our trained Forest School lead. These sessions give children regular opportunities to learn and grow through hands-on experiences in a natural outdoor environment.
At Forest School, children are encouraged to explore, investigate, and connect with nature at their own pace. Whether it’s building shelters, discovering wildlife, using natural materials, or simply enjoying time outdoors, every session is designed to nurture curiosity, confidence, and wellbeing.
What is Forest School?
Forest School is a child-centred approach to learning that takes place outdoors, whatever the weather. Guided by our Forest School lead, children take part in practical, creative, and adventurous activities that promote independence, problem-solving, and teamwork. Sessions are carefully planned to be safe, inclusive, and inspiring, while allowing children the freedom to follow their interests.
Why Forest School? The Benefits for Your Child
Forest School supports children to:

· Improve wellbeing, focus, and emotional regulation
Forest School complements classroom learning by offering children the space to slow down, explore deeply, and learn in a meaningful, memorable way.
We are incredibly proud to have Forest School as part of our curriculum and are excited to see our children flourish as they learn, play, and grow in the natural world.
2025-2026
Forest School – First Term Highlights
In our first Forest School sessions, children explored the natural environment by identifying their surroundings through a fun adjective go-card hunt. This helped them become familiar with the space, build descriptive language, and learn how to care for the environment around them. Over the following weeks, they experienced Hapa Zome, creative craft activities, and celebrated together using the slackline to support balance and core muscle development. The children had an amazing time and were excited to share their Forest School experiences with their fellow students. Most of all, they had so much fun!
Forest School – Second Term Highlights
During our second term at Forest School, children continued to explore and connect with the natural environment through active and creative experiences. They played games such as Stuck in the Mud to develop movement, coordination, and teamwork. The children also took ownership of their Forest School by brainstorming a group name, choosing their own nature names, and creating personalised name necklaces. The term ended with a special campfire celebration, where everyone enjoyed making s’mores together. It was a wonderful experience that built confidence, cooperation, and a strong sense of belonging—filled with laughter, learning, and lots of fun 🌿🔥
Forest School – Term Highlights
This term at Forest School, children worked together to build animal homes using twigs, leaves, and natural materials found in the environment. This hands-on activity encouraged problem-solving, teamwork, cooperation, and creative thinking as they planned and constructed their designs. The children also took part in natural craft activities to build confidence, including making nature crowns and bug hotels. These activities led into identifying different bugs, helping children develop curiosity, observation skills, and respect for living things. The children showed fantastic engagement and enthusiasm, learning together while having lots of fun in the forest 🌿🐞
