At Uplands Infant School, we believe that play is a powerful part of childhood – a time when children learn, grow, and thrive. That’s why we’re proud to be part of the OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) programme, a nationally recognised approach to transforming playtimes into meaningful learning experiences.
What is OPAL?
OPAL is all about giving children more freedom, creativity, and adventure during their play. Instead of the traditional playground model, OPAL encourages schools to create richer outdoor environments filled with loose parts – everyday items like tyres, crates, fabric, planks, and more – that children can use to build, explore, imagine, and collaborate.
